I'm considering having a Holley Carb fitted (I've already had tubular manifolds fitted by E J Ward) but have heard conflicting reports on its reliability. Also will it make any difference to theexhaust note?Any advice would be gratefully received.
I've only heard good things about the holley conversion, but the weber is said by some to be even better and no more expensive.I have a holley and can confirm better MPG and no reliability problems after a year.No exhaust note change.
I've had a Holley for the last 12 years, total reliability for the last 11 years 11 months....after dumping the electric choke and fitting a manual choke kit. My electric choke was sticking open from day one.
Never bothered connecting the cable for the manual choke, 2 or 3 pumps of the throttlein a morning is all that is required.
Oh how I miss split diaphragms &leaky dash pots
Economy is no worst or can even be better. For example a high speed run down the motorway even with my standard diff & 3 speed auto returns over 22mpg.
I too have a Holley carb and have found it to be very reliable, no starting issues (i have the orig auto choke) 2 pumps on the throttle and away he goes.
Couple of woes have crept in recently ~ one is the second two chokes don't seem to operate ~ these are vacuum jobbies and think I've got a perished diaphragm.
The first is prob caused by the later which is the nice shinny manifolds i've put on, the heat is absolutely tremendous (so much so i've fitted a louvered bonnet). how much good does the wrap do (and how on earth do you fit down by the oil filter !). The heat haze coming up from the louvres is quite something to see at traffic lights.
My carb dates back to an early conversion by T.Hart in approx 1986.
FYI I have found rebuild kits available quite easily on good old ebay.
btw. if you change to holley pleeeeese uprate the brakes first
