    IGNITION LEADS

    Hi guys!

My mk2 fitted -orriginal v8 has had a LUMINITION fitted....

no probs- but am curious about fitting " performance silicone type" ( RIMMERS GCL132MS) instead of orriginal green type fitted...has anybody out there in Stag land fitted? and is their any obvious improvements??

The original green OEM leads are rubbish, even new ones can fail quickly. Saying that, if you have a set they are working, they are working and I don't think you can tell the difference over silicon ones...but for how long?

I had a set of Hella 7mm silicon leads for nearly 20 years before swopping for a custom set of 8mm Magnecor silicon leads.

I only changed them for they had become scruffy, still serviceable.

Like most things, you get what you pay for!

      Cheers,

      Mike

I bought a reel of copper cored lead 10m I think and some end pieces from the interweb, and I made them up myself as I was unhappy with the length of some of the standard leads ( very untidy you know) plus the cable I bought was a nice yellow colour. Worked for 20 years no problem!

Just fitted a set of the Rimmers leads, big improvement over my 9 year old green leads. Bit fiddly getting the lengths right, more of a problem on my Stag due to the coil being moved in the past. As someone else said you get what you pay for and I wouldnt bother with the original green type leads.

          Cheers

I agree, don't bother with cheap leads. I also fitted new ditributor cap and rotor at the same time. Made a big improvement.

If you have not already come across it, do take a look at the LDPart website at http://www.ldpart.co.uk - specialises in Stag spares and currently offering a very reasonably priced (£19.27) complete ignition lead set. Each lead comes with little number label so even a complete dipstick like myself can get it right! Distributor cap also available for under a tenner. Lots of useful advice, tips and links as well.

Usual disclaimer of having no connection other than as a satisfied customer - order turnround time is awesome. LDPart's proprietor, Peter Howells, ocasionally posts to this forum and is an active SOC member.

                  Phil,

If you intend to use the original cam cover clips, you'll have to watch for going too big on the diameter of the leads. There's a chance you could damage thicker leads by cramming them into the clips.

                  Just a thought!

Valid point but I find my 8mm leads clip in fine with very little force
