    Patriotic Stags

    G'day All

It was my local car clubs annual run from Cairns to Townsville, for the British Car Rally, this weekend. All started well with our newest member bringing his newly acquired blue Stag to add to the red one and my white car for the convoy. I was looking forward to taking a few photos of them together at the show. Unfortuanately approx 200ks onto the drive this was the only photo I took! The nearside rear wheel started to separate from the blue Stag's wheel as he crossed a bridge. Fortunately he heard a noise and slowed and pulled to the verge and was stopped as the wheel fell off.

This is a photo of the two Stags that made it, basking in the balmy 27C winter sunshine

          G'day, Marco.

Nasty. This is exactly what happened to me many years ago, except I was doing 65-70 at the time . Took ages to find the wheel as it had jumped a hedge, crossed a garden, jumped another hedge and was several hundred yards away in a ploughed field.

Happened to me as well. going around a roundabout, fortunately slowly.

Mine was a newly fitted reconditioned hub.

That is a massively scary prospect. Any warning signs to look out for or preventative maintenence?

Hiya, I've heard of Stag stub axles breaking but those are the first I've seen - nasty !

Good to see you today, turned out to be a goodun. Martin.

I know it's completely irrelevant, but I do like your whitewalls ! Martin.

Only warning sign I had was a light ticking sound that you could hear if there was a wall close to the side of the road. Thought it might have been my rattly hubcaps, it really didn't sound serious at all.

Same here. Tried to track it down for ages until it revealed itself rather spectacularly..........

Did this do any serious under body damage.

Hi Martin, it wasa really good day. We'll probably organise a stand next year.

                          See you in Devon.
