    Trains & Triumphs

    Popped along to an informal Triumph meet today at South Devon Railway, Buckfastleigh. An excellent turnout of Triumphs including 10 Stags up until the time I left.

    One of the Stags has a straight 6 engine fitted. Very nice Stag and very neat installation. Confirms my thoughts that had Triumph fitted this engine from the start, with the PI as an option, followed by the V8 when it had been completely sorted, then they would have sold a whole lot more Stags............

        Aye, it's a fine lump alright, I have owned both 2000's & 2500's and they were all great cars, the 2500 lump should be perfectly adequate for a Stag I would think.

          I have to say, I don't fancy dragging a Stag round with 85 bhp. Martin.

            2500TC Mk2 (74-75): 99bhp(DIN) @4700rpm
            2500TC/S Mk2 (75-77): 106bhp(DIN) @4700rpm
            2·5PI Mk2: 124bhp(DIN) @5500rpm

            Torque:
            2500TC Mk2 (74-75): 133lb.ft @3000rpm
            2500TC/S Mk2 (75-77): 139lb.ft @3000rpm
            2·5PI Mk1/Mk2: 153lb.ft @2000rpm

            Any PI would do the job well enough..... and the torque from a normally aspirated 2.5 wouldn't be a problem to most.

              I have a 2.5 PI in my Stag. Keeps up with the big boys in the outside lane, acceleration more than adequate and now I have sorted the PI system 25 + mpg and no Stag Paranoia, what more could you ask for. Please do not mention the exhaust noise from the TV8. I have read many of the posts recently, seems quite a lot of posts about temperature worries, removing head problems etc.I would prefer to remove the Stag Paranoia with the exhaust note, to mea nice exhaust note is to big a price to pay. Personal opinion, whatever floats yer boat.
