Dazza, the inserts you mentioned are for the front struts only.
In the past I have found standard shocks just as good as Spax and a lot cheaper. Quite a few old Spax are failing in a few years, although the rep I spoke to says they are much better now. So take your pick.
On torque wrenches, for most jobs a torque wrench is not essential for an experienced mechanic, but its a safer bet for most DIY mechanics.
Also check that your spring pads (rubbers) are OK and not perished. Easy and cheap to replace while the shock is off.
