    Engine TDC and camshafts aligned with marks

    Cam sprockets back on now after re-setting timing chain tensioners. Got the timing chain cover back on and now starting to torque down head...yippeee! If everything is aligned, I can't be 180 deg out as with the distributor? Don't want to smash valves into pistons,but guess you wouldn't be able to turn engine over by hand if it was out?

    See if it'sgoing to come out of the comain a day or two at this rate!

    You have to make sure No.2 is at TDC, ie at TDC on crank pulley, camshafts aligned,AND dizzy rotary arm pointing to No.2

      Ah right! No. 2 - front left hand bank, TDC - piston fully up and rotor arm pointing to it or the lead running to it?

      Thanks for help...I'm paranoid :shock:

        ...and when completed before starting it up double check all the timing still aligns, not easy when the front cover is off, just hand turn the engine.I mention cause I put one chain one link out, I reckon it had slipped on the badly worn sprocket and I'd aligned everthing with the incorrect cam on reassembly.:shock:

          If im not mistaken I got my timing out on one side by 180 degrees outyears ago after a head gasket job,nothing got damaged it just wasnt firing on the left hand side.

          Its a long while ago now and ive got a memory like a sieve so I might be imagining it.

            Sodid I :? I put the left hand cam back in180 deg out. I took the head off to check for damage just in case, but if you're 180 out there's no problem apart from the fact she won't start and you feel sheepish

                Thanks for comments. I haven't taken the chains off and they have stayed on the sprockets all round. Just taken tensioners off. Probably ok then if everything aligns.

                Stand by for action....as they say in Stingray!
