    Condenstaion in rear lights

I have a problem with my rear lights. The lenses always seem to have condensation in them. There are no leaks into the boot and Im sure the seals are Ok any ideas to the cause or how to cure the problem.

    Cheers

To get condensation you must 1st have water.
Either the seals are not good and water is getting in from outside or maybe from a damp boot.

I would take off the clear lenses and dry everything in the sun for a few hrs as a 1st step

Hiya Dave, if you remove the tail lights, you'll find that they consist of several coloured segments and a clear lens, you can separate this lens but it takes great care, sit comfortably with a couple of tiny screwdrivers and carefully prise the tags back, they're plastic and will break easily, I think there are about 8, under the lens you'll find a soft sponge gasket, change for new, and that should do it. I replaced the rear light lenses and foam sealsearlier this year with ones from rimmersvery expensive for what they are, avery fiddly job, trying to glue the reflector into the new lense DON`T USE SUPER GLUE IT CLOUDED THE PLASTIC:X:Xand putting it backtogether and they now fill with water when driving in the wet:X:X

Hi, we have the same problem as our car lives outside, we find that rimmers seals dont quite fit at the reverse light end, they stretch in which you can see through the lense. Ultimately meaning water gets in the lights and makes condensatation.

We have tried two new sets of seals and we still have the problem so now we just dry it every once in a while.

Earlier cars have a rubber gasket behind the light unit, on the later ones there is a foam trim gasket, try to get hold of one of the earlier ones as they are much better or if not some heavy duty draught excluder (DIY shops) might do the trick.

Why not make your own ?.

Get some draught excluder tape stuff that has one side sticky from any DIY store but make sure you get the dense foam type not the loose sponge type.

Stick it on the metal part so when you fit the plastic lenses it pushes against the tape so sealing from water penetration.

Not difficult to do a neat job. Has worked on my Stag and I have done it with other cars in the past.

What have you got to lose as a roll of the stuff is only a couple of pounds.

              Good luck, Don Kennedy
