Hi, I have now had a BMW E30 LSD fitted to my Stag and notice that the BMW diff has an electronic pickup to drive the speedo. I am doing a conversion and will be changing my auto box to a Turbo 700 as well. Once I do the conversionmy standard Stag speedo will not work. My question is has anyone found an electronic speedo to suit the E30 LSD that will fit into the stag speedo location? Thanks in advance Spin

I know you can get the standard Stag speedo reconditioned with the same front face but with LCD mileage and trip window, and electronic pickup. I think the electronic pickup is normally supplied to pickup off the propshaft with a new sensor & tag.
The article was in the SOC magazine within the last couple of years. Might have been 'speedycables' or allied company who does the gauge reconditioning.
Seems reasonable that they would be able to configure off your existing electronic sensor.

The Speedycables version runs off the diff side flange. You make up a 90 degree plate and undo the two top bolts of the side driveshaft output flange and then fit the sensor and you run the wire up to the dashboard. When I fitted it for someone, I ran the wire up through the floor grommet in the soft top stowage area and then to the side and ran it along the inner sill
You have to replace the driveshaft bolts and replace with round headed Allen key type bolts as the sensor is calibrated to use the head of the boltsto break the sensor beam
You then ruin the car, ideally using a satnav and you calibrate it easily by adjust the dial which has 3 settings in steps of percentages.
You also do not have to have the LCD dial centre at they will adapt your existingdigits so it looks originaland you would not knowit was electronic
If anyone is going to get a garage to fit one you need to know that the wire is too short and will need extending, it doesn’t come with the round head drive shaft nuts and bolts and also you will need to make the mounting plate your self.

Hi Andy, Yeah the Monarch website is a good starting point. Its not as simple as just bolting one in!
If you are breaking E30's you might get some interest from members wanting E30 LSD's!
Do you know anything about the speedo signal coming out of the E30 diff? Shape and amplitude etc? or a web site that might have some info? Thanks Spin

Hi as a new boy to the forum and to Stag ownership, cananyone explain what are the advantages of changing the diff to a BMW limited slip differtial? I have a neighbour with a E30 type 318 car with a good LSD that he is about to scrap. How difficult is the changeover and is it worth it? I looked at the Monarch site and am overwhelmed by the prices.Perhaps there is a technical section of the forum where this type of info is available?
