Diff, Quill Shaft & and Front Extension overhaul

    Hi All

Have any of you undertaken yourself the overhaul of the differential, Quill Shaft or Front Extension? I have two diffs to choose from:-

Diff No 1 is on the MOT failed car. Sounded okay last time I had the car out on the road a year ago. Looks as if it is leaking oil.

Diff No.2 is off the project car. Not run for the past 29 years!

At the moment Iam unsure which one to use on my restoration.

How easy is it to replace the bearing in the front Extension?

How easy is to replace the bearings and oil seals in the Diff?

    Cheers

Bruce it is very straight forward to replace the seals with the diff out. You must do the bearing in the extension nose section. The parts arent that expensive either. Should not take you more than 2 hours to do all if you do the job slowly and keep everything clean

I would whilst the diff is off the car, have the nose extension welded up to reinforce this area

    Cheers

      Hi Bruce

As Andrew said the quill shaft bearing and front oil seal are easy. If I remember rightly the bearing is only held in place with a circlip, and the seal presses into the front of the diff.
