Been away for a week in my Stag this week to Suffolk, nearly did not make it as the day before I was due to leave the high pressure hose on the power steering started leaking due to the pinch bolt on the lower steering column rubbing against it and wearing a hole:X, luckily the mechanic who services my car was able to repair the pipe using an appropriate compression coupling enabling me to use the car for a very enjoyable week.
I had decided that I would sell the car after Brands Hatch day and get something perceived as more reliable like a Saab or a Bmwbut after a great week using the car with no problems I have come to my senses, I suppose the thing is that a classic may not be as reliable as a modern car but at least they are easily repaired by any garage wherever you are in the uk so you would not be off the road for long. Funny how despite the trouble that you have to deal with on these cars a good reliable period restores your enthusiasm.
During the week I noticed a knocking coming from the rear suspension which gradually got worse, there were no visible signs of anything wrong but by the time I got home yesterday I had decided that I probably had a broken/fractured rear offside spring or perhaps the rubber insulaters were shot, this morning I removed the spring and found a stone lodged between the spring and the side of hole in thetrailing arm where the spring sits,I have removed it and now no noises, makes a change for a problem to not cost any money to rectifyso hopefully car is all ok for that lap of Brands
