    tracing back car history

Hello Stag friends beyond the Channel,

I was trying to trace back the history of my Stag - to no avail so far. I will let you know what I know. Perhaps you know one of the previous owners or have any other details.

I have got the info from Heritage Centre already and I have tried DVLA. But they do not give any info to non-UK residentials.

    - Chassis number: LD-10250-BW built on 22nd Nov. 1971

    - delivered to car dealer James Edwards Ltd. in Chester on 30th Nov. 1971 and sold from there on 12th Jan. 1972. James Edwards Ltd. went bust later and was replaced by a Landrover dealer under the same name. They do not have any old files though.

    - First registration no.: SFM 545K, then RJI 5619 and last BNT 176K.

    - The person from Nottingham, who sold that Stag to me, had bought it from a family called Gillian and E.N. Rees-Jones, "Rintelen", Llanforda Mead, Oswestry/Shropshire. I know that Princess Diana's last body guard was named Rees-Jones and came from Oswestry, but his first name was Trevor and his wife was Sue Jones. So I guess that does not fit.

I would highly appreciate if one of you could help me here. Perhaps you know a person who used to work for James Edwards or anybody. I will gladly send one of the previous owners pics to show what became of the former car etc.

Kind regards, Dieter - from the other side of the Channel.

    Hi Dieter -

I worked at James Edwards as an apprentice panel beater ,I started with the firm in 1966

(god is it that long ago) I stayed in the Chester branch until 1968 when the body shop closed and we where all moved to the sister branch in Elsmere Port it was called George Boyle sports cars .Both Garages were owned by the McAlpine group (the building company )I stayed at the Elsmere port branch until 1971 so just missed your car . The chairman at the time was a Mr Bell and he had a very impressive fleet of classic car that he kept on a airfield near Wrexham .we had the pleasure of maintaining the fleet which included two Ferraris ,DB6 ,DB4 ,a Jensen and the pride of the fleet was a Hispano-Suiza all of which I got to drive. I don’t suppose for one moment that this has been any help but it brought some good memories back for me

      Hello John,

Thank you for your kind remarks. Do you think there might be any files left anywhere? If so, who could I ask?

      Kind regards, Dieter.

        Hi Dieter

I assume that you have written to the Rees-Jones to see if they can help?

The Club has a registrar so if your Stag's previous owners were in the club they may well have some history. I am not sure if they provide that sort of info to people though. I guess there may be some issues with the Data protection act! Might be worth a shot though. I think his contact details are in the front of the mag.

          Regards

          Dave

              Deiter

Perhaps "The person from Nottingham" , who sold that Stag to you would be willing to apply to DVLA for you. The fee is only ÂŁ5.00.

Secondly: "But they do not give any info to non-UK residentials" Can you not invoke your rights as an EC citizen?

I don't know what happened to the files , I believe the company was taken over by a firm in Shropshire but not sure ,I will ask some of my old friends in the trade but not to hopeful i'm afraid
