    Fuel cap won't close

    Hi Guys,

My fuel cap will not close.

There is small round bar that looks slightly bent, is it meant to be or should it be straight?

    Any other ideas?

Mine has a slight bend in it and it can be a right sod to close! The first time I filled up with petrol I ended up moving away from the pump and parking up to give me some time to sort it out. I got there in the end though. It closes with a bit of brute force!

      Regards

      Dave

Just had a closer look at my fuel cap and the bar is pretty straight.
There is a small projection on the lock part that looks like it might be worn on mine. I think this is suppose to link under the bar when the key is turned but mine does not.

        Any suggestions?

        Rgds.....Al

          Ok Guys,

Need some help here. Got my MOT tomorrow and the fuel cap won't stay shut

Anyone know of a temporary bodge to get it thru the MOT?

            Hi Al

Have you fitted a new rubber seal? After fitting one to my car I struggled to close the cap until the rubber deformed to suit the gap. If you have, trim if with a knife to make it fit better.

Alternatively, its a quick and simple job to swap the entire fuel cap. Do you live near another Stag owner and you know ell enough to borrow their cap assembly for the duration of the MOT? If you had more time then you could have simply bought a replacement lock mechanism from Paddocks etc

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Managed to sort this out earlier.

Was going to be a bodge repair but actually works very well, so will leave it for now.

I drilled through the nipple on the lock and wound in a small brass screw/bolt from a household plug (had to cut it down slightly.

The slightly wider head stops the bar in the cap pulling back through

              Works for me anyway

              Al
