    Wheels

    Hi all,

I'm sure this has been discussed before but cannot seem to find a thread.

The car I'm hoping to buy currently has non standard wheels which will have to go, have seen a pic of a Stag on wire wheels and quite like the look, does anyone have an opinion on them, good or bad?

Also have you any good pics of your car wearing them you can post?

    Cheers

Mine's got wires - they look great but are a complete sod to keep clean  That said, they still look pretty good when only *nearly* clean, I like them

    Here's a picture for you:

By the way, these aren't the original Stag wire wheels, they're a Dunlop aftermarket addition by one of the previous owners. The spoke pattern is different on the genuine ones.

Thanks for the picture, your car looks great, think I'll look into getting those wheels when I get my car, bet they're quite pricey tho!

No idea I'm afraid, they were already on the car when I bought it. James Paddock currently list a set for ÂŁ850 though, not sure how that compares with the price of new alloys...

          Hi Wendy

As has already been said wire wheels are a pig to keep clean, plus I believe you should have the spokes checked every so often as the spokes loosen, and then they are more prone to punctures as the spokes rub on the rubber tape and then through the inner tube. On guy had three punctures in two days when we were in the Netherlands a couple of years ago....................But you must be led by people who have them fitted, I'm no expert on wire wheels, this is just what I believe.

One more thing have you thought about Minilites?

            Hi Jez

So your going for it then

I agree with RogerP wire wheels do look goodbut cleaning, minilites are a nice alternative and reasonably priced and suite the stag well.

I wasn’t sure about them when I bought the car but I really like them now. They are a pig to keep spotless, but look ok, even when dirty, not had any punctures and the only problem I have had with them was getting them balanced when fitting new tyres, went to 5 tyre fitters before I found one that could fit them to the balancing machine.

I've not had trouble getting them balanced, but did have problems finding someone to sell me tubes! The conversation usually goes
                            "I'd like four tyres please"
                            "Certainly madam"
                            "Oh, and tubes as well"
"[silence] but they're tubeless tyres, you don't need tubes"...
Show me a wire wheel that's airtight then!

                              Hi Jezza
Dont be offended this is just an opinion, personally i think wires on Stags are bloody awful, i dont feel they suit the shape of the car at all. It is only an opinion, as has been said before they are a bugger to keep clean also.Actualy i rather like the look of those alloys, certainly a period set of wheels. I have anthracite grey standard pattern alloys on mine and took a little while for me to get used to them.
