    Propshaft BW35/BW65

    Hi All

My car is a 1976 Stag Mk2 and according to the serial number which ends with an A it should have a BW65 box fitted, however the previous owner has replaced it with a BW35 for some reason:?.

Today I took the prop to have new UJ's fitted and found out that the front yoke is badly worn and the 'bearing cup' is spinning in the bore:shock:. During this inspection at Proptech they noticed the front spline nose appears to be sticking out of the box 10mm further than they would normally allow.

Question is there a difference in length between the BW65 box of prop compared to the BW35 box or prop?

They told be I need a new propshaft and can make me one for approx £120 with heavy duty UJ's fitted.

Note self check spec before posting!

BW35 has spline BW65 has flange fitting!

Question is are the new solid shafts any good? According to LD Parts they are easier to balance?

Proptech said they can do either! But did say the rubber type absorb vibrations better but are only available in 3.5" diameter not the standard 3", I think this might catch on the silencers?

      Hi Stuart,

As you know I recently changed the UJs in my BW35 prop and suffered from vibrations. I have now fitted another prop courtesy of another local member (Derek Athey) and the vibrations have gone.

I now have a BW35 prop with new U/Js but which requires balancing. Is it any good to you? Any ideawhat Proptechwould charge me for balancing my prop if I could get it to them?

        Hi Stuart

You could try Dave Mac Propshaft's coventry. http://www.davemacprops.com/dmphome.html

He made me a new solid shaft, and I didn't have any problems........Or you could try Clive Tate I'm sure he's probably got one or two around!!
