    Upset

ok fitted a new soft top to my stag over the winter, all worked ok went up and down no problem, i did at the end have these 2 bits of what looked like bent bits of coat hangers left which go on the rear quarter bits of the roof, decided that i did not need these as i could not see what they did, anyway yesterday put the roof full down to pop out for a bit and the roof would not fold away as it should soi forced it a bit and got 1 side of lid to close, when last night before locking it away in the garage i decided to put the roof back up did i find why the roof did not go down, i had squashed the roof between the frame putting 3 rips in the roof [ by not having the coat hanger bits ] i had to just walk away from the car before i lost it. kicking myself today for not putting bits back.

I know just how you feel...... when I bought mine it had a very recent new hood, fitted quite badly. I had no idea that he/they/it had omitted to fit these same parts and chomped mine in the same way - initially thought it was me forgetting how to drop the hood, but later swore very loudly.

I "repaired" the rip with duct tape from the inside, and 2 years later remains the same, although I have to admit to having a good Victor Meldrew style mutter whenever I see the damage.......

This is exactly why my Stag still has its original top.. complete with several holes and more than one leaky door seal.. and the brand new top sits in its box in the garage. I'm terrified to fit it.

What is the best way to fold the hood down,i just can't get mine to fit in the stowage area properly.

Even with the wire protectors the material can still get trapped sometimes, so its worth just checking each side before pushing into the latches.

The main lesson to learn with hoods is that if it doesn't seem to be doing what it should, NEVER force it, as tempting as it may seem. There is always a good reason when the hood does not work.

It folds easy enough but doesn't go low enough without a lot of pressure.

Hi are you unzipping the rear window and loosening the velcro sides above the windows and when folding the hood into the hole making sure the material is folding in correctly ? I have a mark one hood with side windows and I have to be very careful on stowing away and on lifting out.. Steve

ps this might sound daft but make sure the front securing arms are folded out of the way as they can catch on the rear.

on the back of the tonneau cover there is a small bracket (which was missing on mine) which helps to push the hood down into the well - is yours present?

I haven't noticed any bracket,i've tried with the window closed & open, but its not going in the well far enough.
I'm sure it's pilot error on my part.

I found that you need to ensure the velcro is fully seperated, all the way to the front on both sides to ensure the material folds nicely - mine likes to join back together while you are folding !
I always unzip the rear window, and i have the rear seat back permenantly unfastened at the top so i can flip it forwards and ensure the window is fed down without getting snagged.

Good idea. I'll take the seat out tomorrow,i might be able to see what's wrong.

                          Hi Steve

When you fold the top down do you push the top (material) out so that it dosen't get trapped in between the frame as it folds down? If you think of it as a pram hood when folding it down if the material is trapped in between the frame it wont allow the frame to fold down enought.

I think that's part of the problem Roger,i need to take more care when folding it away.

Can anybody post a photo of these mysterious parts?

                              Kind regards, Dieter.
