    Oil Light

Before I purchase a new oil light switch. Please can someone confirm that when the ignition is turned on and before the engine is started the oil light should come on!.

Mine does not.I have removed the wire and shorted it to the block and the light then comes on.

    Thanks in advance

Yes the oil light should come on as soon as you turn the ignition on, and go out as soon as engine starts, sounds like oil pressure switch has died.

If you value the skin on your hands and fingers at all, leave the car overnight before tackling this job! I speak from experience...

I found that if the brake warning light, to the right of the steering wheel, has blown or been removed the oil warning light does not work. I replaced the bulb in the brake warning and the the oil light now works.

I replaced mine with a 25psi switch point.

Can't see the point in having one that comes on when its too late!
