    Which Power Steering Fluid?

I went out today to get some power steering fluid having used up the bottle I bought years ago. I found it impossible to buy Castrol TQF or any other type F fluid anywhere remotely local.

I note that several of the specialists are selling a Unipart type G fluid but this wasn't available locally either. I read on the net that Castrol TQF has been discontinued. What Power steering fluid are others using and is it easy to obtain or a mail order job from one of the specialists

Hiya Ian, I've been using Dexron in the power steering for years with no problems, after taking advice I won't use it in the transmission, but it's fine in the PAS. Martin.

      Hi Ian

ATF - G from Comma or Castrol will be fine for the PAS pump and Auto box if you have one.

STP or Comma Power Steering Fluid is even better. Lubricates the seals and prevents leaks better than ATF. If you are losing fluid into the rack gaiters these products will stop thisand delay the need for a rack rebuild for several years.

I kept these alternatives from a posting I came across early 2007

          Unipart GUL255R 1/2 litre or GUL205 5litre
This is TQF which meets the Ford spec M2C 33G suitable for Borg Warner
transmissions. Its also OK in the steering pump. also Comma AQF.

At that time Stuart has pointed out modernATF should meet the spec.

            Thanks all,

I manged to get power steering fluid from carlube (couldn't get Comma or STP) which appears to have done the job. It too is supposed to help stop leaks.
