Ever since I got the Stag over a year ago I have suffered with a hesitation on small throttle openings - it used to worry me but it never got any worse and if you gave it more throttle it would clear. I have tried all sorts of things - dizzy cap, rotor arm, plugs, coil, new Lumenition, rebuilt carbs, rebuilt fuel pump, new fuel tank (thought it was rust in the tank causing problems), insulating the fuel line, etc etc
After more thought and desperation I thought it may be the float chamber vent valves so checked those and all seemed ok. To check them I had disconnected the pipes to blow down them. While I was at it I just thought I would check they were clear and tried to blow the other way back into the airbox - one of them was blocked- I then remembered that one of the very first things I replaced when I got it was the rubber T Piece that joins them together and connects the airbox - sure enough one of the holes was blocked inside!!! Just unblocked it with a drill bit.
I have only managed a ten mile test so far - little petrol in it and I left my wallet at home! - but it did not miss a beat. I am really hopeful that I have finally found the problem.
Moral of the storey - check cheap pattern parts before you fit them! - it may save you a lot of time and money.
