It's quite a while ago but I think the first one was from Rimmers.

The second was definitely from Robsport.

They did both look the same though.

I'm going to have a go at the rear crank oil seal tomorrow.

I'll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck

        Well, its done.

It turned out not to be the rear crank oil seal, but the gasket between the oil seal housing and the sump. I obvously didn't use enough sealer.

Cleaned everything up and reassembled with lots of sealer this time and it seems to be sorted. I had help from a good freind who runs a small workshop and used his lift. Took about five hours to do.

He had a TR6 in the workshop and his Mk2 Escort Rally car. A good days work and really good to have solved it.

              Hi Paul,

The rear crankshaft oil seal housing is retained by 6 set screws. There are 4 of one length and 2 of another. If these are not put back in the correct place they can bottom out and prevent the housing from seating properly.

But you knew that didn't you?

                Hi Paul
Glad you found your leak. I take it you still have to remove the gearbox for this?

                  Dave,

Yes, He is a great guy and a good friend. I met him through oursons school kart racing team.

He runs a Escort Mk2 rally car with 2 litre Vauxhall engine. Its seriously quick.

His brother has a mk4 rear wheel drive escort rally car with cosworth engine. He has two sons who both rally Peugeot 205's.

His other brother runs a company racing Formula V single seaters.

In the picture behind the TR6 is another Mk2 escort which is being rally prepared and will use a Honda S2000 engine.

                  Motorsport runs in their blood.

                  Al,

It was just as much work as doing the rear crank oil seal. Exhaust, propshaft, gearbox, clutch and flywheel all needed to be removed. We dropped the engine down and rested it against the cross member after moving the front brakepipe out of the way. Had a bit of difficulty getting the gearbox back on and had to adjust the clutch alignment. Not an easy job, but much easier with the car on lift and with two people.

                    :shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:

Think I will live with the drip for a while!

Changed my leaky brake calliper today and all seems to be ok with the replacement
Cleaned off the oil underneath and put talc everywhere, so may get a clue as to where it is coming from.
