    Stag Mk1 seats

    Hello everybody,

I am not too enthusiastic about my Stag seats, as a) the inside material is crumbling away and b) the Mk1 seats without headrests are quite low and not very "sportive" or safe.

So I am contemplating a replacement.

I have read that some Stag drivers have opted for seats from other car models - e.g. Jaguar XJS, BMW E30 etc.

    So my questions are:

Who has replaced his seats? What "donor cars" did you use? What were your experiences?

    Kind regards, Dieter.

Do mx5 seats tip? They would need to to maintain access to the rear seats.

Hi Dieter, The person in my opinion who takes top marks for innovation and ingenuity has to be Bob Heritage... check these seats out i am sure you will want similar ones.

I fitted some period 70's Recaro's in mine a few years ago. They are similiar to the Ford Capri ones.

Quite easy to fit, the picture below shows the original seat, and the new replacement seat with fabricated adapters made from folded stainless steelto pick up the stag seat mounting points.

              Hello,

I was told that Jag. XJS seats up to a certain year of manufacture fit exactly (same runners, same design, etc. - see picture). Does anybody know more - e.g. did they come in "saddle tan", too?

              Kind regards, Dieter.

                Dieter.
DJT mentioned this a few weeks ago. Sorry cannot remember the thread title. Your photo shows the later XJS seat which is not a direct replacement. They certainly come in a "tan" but maybe a lighter shade than saddle.

would you know up to what production year the XJS seats work asa direct replacement?

                  Kind regards, Dieter.

I think it's around 1987. The earlier ones have flatter side bolsters than shown in your photo.

hi dieter,im in the process of upgrading to this type of xjs seat.isearched for black to no avail seems they are very rare the cream leather coluor is the most common a few others are available notably blue and red but never seen saddle?

the bracket required for transition is quite simple .the seats i am fitting are from a 1990 xjs and iam recoulering black with a leather dye kit from furniture clinic cost about £90 seats cost £80.most coulers available or they can match your existing if they have a sample.ive done one and they come out excellent if you take your time freinds have been impressed by the finnish.

when i get them done and fitted ill post some pics.

                      steve..................

ps.the xjs seats are about half the weight of the stag seat and very comfortable, plus they have adjustable air baglumber support via small in seat compressor and are electricaly heated.but you dont have to utilize these functions i stripped them out dont require them.

                        Hi Dieter

Just a thought, but rather than change the seats have you considered replacing the low back pad on your MK1 seats with the high back US spec seat pad?

I had same concerns as you regarding comfort and safety and was lucky enough to buy a set in black from Dave (DJT) when he sold his MK1 Stag. Once the high back pad is fitted and you rebuild the seat with new foams it makes for a comfortable and supportive seat and it maintains the original lookwhich I think is important for a car as nice as yours.

It's not easy to source originals, but Redstag (Pete) made up a set from scratch using new covers and foams (which are available in all colours) and modifying another headrest frame to fit. Hislook original to me and I'm sure he can provide more details.

Finally, I seem to recall someone on the forum said one of the UK trimmers was re-manufacturing the MK1 headrest - was it South East Trimmers??...

I haven't got a picture of my seats available but this US Stag pic gives you an idea of the look.

                        Regards

                        Andy

                            Hello,

I was offered this type of Jag seats (see pic). This is the early Jag XJS type. Do they fit into the Stag without alterations?

                            Kind regards, Dieter.
