    Car alarm recommendation

Can anyone tell me what type of alarm is required for the SOC Insurance scheme? Any recommendations for types (and cost)?

    Thanks.

I had a Cobra catagory 1 alarm / immobiliser fitted by a VSIB (Vehicle Systems Installation Board) member who supplied a "Certificate of Installation" after fitting. Model number was A4138. Cost was £310 fitted but this included fitting my face-off unit and getting electric aerial to work!

    Hope this helps.

    Regards, John

Club insurance scheme doesn't require an alarm (they are a complete waste of time and money as nobody takes a blind bit of notice of them). They will ask for a Thatcham Category 2 immobiliser, but if you push it they will admit that this isn't a requirement either.

I had a Thacham cat 2 immobiliser fitted, I think the make is Laserline. It cost about £115 and came with a certificate.

Perhaps peace-of-mind would be a good reason to fit, not insurance.

Attached is a picture of the Car Alarm I had when I lived in the U.K.
As well as a deterent the Samoyeds were a breakdown recovery service as well - as if you broke down you just hooked them up to the front of the Stag and they would tow it home - just like a sled in the Winter Wonderland of the wilds of Russia.

Please please PLEASE, DON'T fit an alarm, they drive everyone nuts when they false alarm, which all the aftermarket ones do, and nobody pays any attention other than to swear ! for peace of mind, fit a Cat 1 immobiliser, all Cobra stuff is good. Martin.

My cobra alarm has NOT false alarmed (yet!) and I have the microwave sensor suitable for open-topped cars.

If it did, for no obvious reason, I would contact the installer (and then his governing body).

                    Regards, John.

                          I've got one of these

it's asticker in the window, it also came with a flashing LED which I've yet to fit. It must be good as my Stag's still parked in my garage and isn't currently being broken for parts on eBay.

An alarm is one of the reason's why I don't use the club scheme; I think it's an unreasonable requirement that and the fact they won't allow business use.

They were insistant the last time I tried them; but asthere was cheaper/better cover available else where I didn't push it. After all why should you have to?
