    Does power steering fluid smell?

Rather than put the hood up this morning in the rain, I parked the car in our loading bay. After I moved it this afternoon, on the floorthere was more than a drip of something oily but practically odour free. Crawling underneath, and parked-up this afternoon somewhere else, there is nothing obvious, but I wondered if it was caused by tight turning on the power steering getting it out of a tighish space as I seem to have a small leak on the power steering pipework near to the o/s cylinder head.

Does pressure increase on lock and does power steering fluid smell?

    Thanks in advance.

Yep it smells and it's a different smell from oil and hypoid.

I think I might have a leak from either UKC1442 or 1443 - are these easy to change?

        Hi Graham,

I changed the high pressure pipe UKC 1442 very recently and its pretty staight forward and took about half an hour all told. You will need a container to catch the fluid when you undo the pipe and will need to bleed the system by turning full lock in each direction a few times once you have fitted the new pipe(s) and topped up the system. Take the time to route the new pipe properly as the new one I got from Robsport was a slightly different shape to the one I took off. Good luck.

Just changed the high pressure one on mine. Fairly straight forward job, just make a note of where the route ofthe existing pipeis before you take it off. If it is leaking it is as well to change it as the fluid makes a hell of a mess if it bursts.

Hi, it's much easier if you use one of those handwash bottle tops, the one with the pump, with a bit of washer tube to extend it, easy - and free ! Martin.
