    Overdrive identification

I'm fairly new to the Stag so please forgive me if this is a silly question, but is there a simple way to identify if I have an A or a J overdrive?

I have a 1971 Mk1 by the way. Thanks in advance.

If it's original then it will be an 'A' type, but I guess this is what you're trying to find out!.

I think the easiest way will be to locate the solenoid underneath the unit. The 'A' type is at an angle of approx 30 degrees to the horizontal, the 'J' type is exactly horizontal.

There are many other distinguishing features and if you have the Stag Repair Operation Manual or the Stag Spare Parts Catalogue, or even Rimmers catalogue then you can see the differences and make your own comparison.
