    Viscous Coupling Spigot

I am now on my second Viscous coupling in less than a year the first one lasted 640 miles and the second just 580 miles, thefirst has been replaced free of charge, but on studying the parts catalogue I notice the spigot is missing (part no 159153), could this be my problem, or have I had two from the "bad batch",the viscous coupling sits snug on the pulley but can't help wondering if this is my problem, does any one have accurate dimensions of a spigot so I can save a few quid and make on up?

    Cheers

Mine doesn't have the spiggot either. I have always assumed that it wasn't fitted to later cars, or the pic in the catalogues is incorrect. I could be wrong though. Mine is a snug fit as well, and I have had two faliures since I have had the car, not including the failed and bodged one that was on the car when I bought it. (Bodge broke on the way home when I first picked it up!).

I bought the current one from LD part. They are very good. Peter got in contact with me requesting that I sent it back as he had had a duff batch. (It turns out mine is ok though). But never the less you will be looked after if the parts he supplies turn out to be sub-standard.

    Regards

    Dave

      Thanks Dave

Come to think of it, would the crank bolt be long enough with the spigot in place? may well give LDs a call but I'm reluctant to shell out again, I suppose needs must.

        Hi Chris
The spigot is only needed if you have a Mk1 Stag and intend to fit a Mk 2 VC as Mk 1 VC's are no longer made

Out of interest i changed my Vc recently and it only lasted 3 days---Many members on here have had similar experiences

Don't bother with a coupling from a triumph spares place, try a Xwd spares place they are the same as a land rover, I picked mine up for £25,and they are he same make as the originals ,I had a mk1 and had to fit the spacer for the mk2 version and also change the fan for the mk2 as well.Andy

            Thanks Andy

Could be a trip to the local independent Land Rover dealer, I have done some searching, and found a Land Rover part number ERC2849could beof some use to others.

              Thanks for the post Chris

How do you get the spigot off the drive shaft?

              Cheers

Having got a mk2 coupling and before fitting the spigot,I had the shoulder, of the spigot, machined back around 5mm,to bring the fan blades away from the radiator.
As a bonus, this gave me room to replace the fan belt.
