      Thanks Rob

Yes, thanks for link, I have been through this.

The valve on my fathers car is turning but it is very stiff and needs pulling out, cleaning up and refitted with a lubricant. Hoping to the job tonight as the heater is stuck on hot and this weather he has lost 3 stone and has wet carpets due to perspiration.

When I have done them before, the O ring comes outin one piece and I just wanted an idea of the size in case I break the O ring.

If yours moves, then its a straight forward job to do. To make life easier, I pull the heater pipes off in the engine compartment, put a bolt in each one to save the water comingout and then put an airline feed into the heater from the engine side and push any water out (and rubbish) with the heater set on hot. This means that when you take the valve out, there is no water.

      Cheers

The specification for the "O" ring is 13/16" od, 5/8" id, 3/32 width.

Pity you are not local, as I have a bag of them in nitrile.
Also you will need to check the actuator arm has not rounded off the flats on the brass plug as if this is worn you may only get 50% of the designed movement.

How did you get the screw out of the heater valve?I've tried 3 or 4 times now and managed to round off the screw head so now I cant get a screw driver on it

            cheers Cliff

Hi Cliff. I managed to screwdriver mine out but the screw is soft. You should be able to grip it sideways with mole grips, if not, you will have to drill out and then make a hole small enough and put a self tapper screw in to be able to put it using the bracket turned on its back as a grip

              Good luck

                    Thanks Rob

When you get the valve out, t Cut it until it shines and clean out the grove the O ring sits in otherwise this cause excess pressure on the fit. Then make sure you smoothen and clean the surface of the heater housing before fitting in back. I used T cut again and then applied waterproof grease to the valve and housing and it just pushed in with fingers.Don't fit the cable etc until youknow that you can turn the valve with it bracket with one finger, thenyou know it will be perfect. If its tight, pull it out again and clean some more or maybe a few turns of wet and dry 1200 and then polish again and it will most likely be the housingcausing the drag.

The most importantthing is the screw removal and making sure it doesn't shear off

                    Good luck
