hi all, i am going to replace the two large outer subframe bushes, can anyone tell me if its a one man job?also could you give me an idiots step by stepguide??
Should be a quick andeasy job and depending on the length of your arms can be a one man job. The big nut at the bottom is on a bolt which goes up inside the car. Lift out the back seat and you will see that the trim from the rear side panels covers a deep hole like the top of a tube on each side. The head of the bolt is at the bottom of it. So spanner below, socket on long extension above. That's where a helper would be useful for a few minutes.
Raise thethe body a little on the side where you are working. Undo the big bolt. Then take out the two little ones which bolt the bush into place on the subframe. Note the position of the large spacer washers above and below the bush.
And as they say in the best manuals... reverse the procedure to refit.
You don't need to jack the car up at all as the subframe arms lower automatically as you undo the large bolt that goes through the centre. When the arm lowers, you will see the bush is held in by two small bolts, 1/2 inch. Undo these bolts, insert new bush and the put trolley jack under the arm, lower the bolt down through from the top from inside the car and as you jack the arm up, the bolt will drop through the bush or you can push it through. As soon as you can get a nut on it, start winding it up.
