    Tire Size

What is the largest tire size that will fit a Stag with the aluminum wheels? Larger outer diameter will give better miles per gallon.

I've got 205/70/14 tyres fitted, I'm not sure you could go much bigger.

I'm not claiming improved mpg though! I expect any improvement from the larger rolling radius is negated by greater rolling resistance etc.

I fitted a higher ratio Diff at one time and expected better mpg but it went down if anything.

        Hi Steve,

It should make a difference on a run, but town driving means more revs when starting off, hence more fuel. I found this from experience with my old MOD Stag. +/- 18-20mpg around town, 30mpg on a run. So it depends on what you use the Stag for.

I`vegone from 185/80 14"(standard profile) =lots of tyre wall roll to 195/70 14"=higher gearing=slightly less roll=better mpg on the open road BUT you have to have enough power to allow the engine to pull the higher gearing. Now I`ve gone to 195/65 15" which is the same rolling radius as the 185/70.

Result MUCH better handling and a much bigger spread of tyre makes to choose from.

Forgot to say I feel that 195 width is the biggestI would want to fit on a Stag. Biggest is NOT alwaysbest in this case as you may get `tramlining` with 205`s and bad wet weather adhesion

Just for interest I am running on 205/60 x14 on original wheels and I do not get any tramlining. They give great grip but are a fraction smaller in diameter

Im running 195/60/15s on mine much improved handling and speedo is now correct after being incorrect on standard alloys after conversion from auto to manual.
