    Steering wheel spline

    Hi Guys

Having justaquired a mountney steering wheel (Same style as stag but a bit smaller)at a boot sale for the sum of one pound.i need to get a boss for it so went to halfords.they said there were 2 kits listed and the change was 1973.does this mean the Mk 1 wheel has a different spline to the Mk 2 ?.cant think what else it could be.

    Steve,

Shouldn't be any difference. The only change was from 14" (Mk1) to 13" (Mk2) steering wheel. Bosses remained the same.

My (Mk1) car is fitted with an Astrali wheel, which uses the same boss as the Mountney.

      Thanks Dave

Must be the usual halfords inaccuracies,i didn't think there would be any difference between them.

I've swapped Mk1 and Mk2 steering wheels on my car with no problem.

Just found this site on ebay and sure enough it lists

          1970-1973 dolly /stag MB034

          1974 on dolly/stag MB066

          But why?

            Steve,

The simple answer to your last post is to 'ask the seller a question'. See what he says.I have been able to slip a Mk2 wheel onto my Mk1 Stag. That was before I fitted the Astrali. They only listed one boss for the Stag.

If any body does one in the future it's MB 066. £19.99 from halfords.

                Steve,

Did you find out what the difference was between the two - MB034 and MB066?

Dave i was told there was very little difference except that the MB034 had a hole through itpossibly for a horn wire.

Don't need that for the Stag then..............

By the way. If you chuck away the plastic centre cap for the Mountney and Araldite the mount for the Stag wheel pad to the boss (might need to trim it a bit) you can fit the Stag pad back on.

                    Thanks, Steve.
