I've got these four lengths of flat bar each with twooffset holes which have the same centres as the cross-member fixing holes. I think they should fit as per photo, acting as reinforcement or backing plates, on top of the bottom flange, either side of the chassis member. Are they Rimmers code UKC452 Page 100 catalogue? Mine are not tapped, hmmm, maybe they should be!

While we're on that page, I also got 2 off UKC1177/78 flexible brake hose chssis fixing points? If that's the case what are 151440/1 for? I haven't got them, I was just wondering if I should.

    John.

    Hi John

On my car the bolt passes through this plate and is tighten by the nut from beneath, so no need to be tapped.

Thanks Stuart, bolt from the top, nut underneath. Any comment on the other pieces?

As far a I understand it UKC1177/78 superceed 151440/1. UKC1177/8 have two bolt holes and go on top of the fixing plates. The fixing plates are tappered and are installed with the thinner side against the front longitudinal.

        From the ROM:

"fit plates behind bolt heads; the two chamfered plates are positioned inboard to accommodate chassis radii. [1] Brake pipe brackets attach to rear outer bolts [2]"
[1] There's only one part number so I assume it's thinner sideon theinsidefor both
[2] Think is it for the 151440/1 versions which only had onebolt hole

        <edit>

While I remember the outer bolts should be longer than the inner onesas well to allow for the brake bracket thinkness

Its good engineering practice to always have the bolt facing downwards. That way if the nut falls off, the bolt stays put for a while and hopefully retains the other item in place.

As regards the flexible hose clips, they go across from one side of the chassis leg to the other. I will post a photo tomorrow night of my project car as I have already assembled that section of the front suspension.

Make sure these eight bolts are good and tight as they often seem to work loose. This causes a 'clonk' when turning corners, and gives the impression there is something wrong with the suspension.

Threads often strip too so its best to fit new bolts when possible.

                  Nick,

Looking at your photo of the brake hose fixing, which is as I have installed by the way, I noticed that you don't have the backing plates under the heads of your bolts?

                  Edit

Sorry, just had a closer look, I think you have after all, it's just an angle of view issue.

They are; it's just a crap picture and I've re-used the nylocs. Must do better 2/10
