    Scammers at work again

The scammers are at work again. Regularly you will see TRs, E-Types, Aston Martins being sold in the same way this Stag is being sold:

    eBay item number 320154329397

Registeredas an eBay seller yesterday, no feedback, classified ad, stupid price and probably someone else's car. Does anyone recognise it?

If anyone wants to query this sale,DO NOT provide your email address but do any questioningvia 'Ask the Seller a Question', and above all do not send any money.

    Ray,

This Stag has been on eBay a few times before at around £10K. Can't remember if it ever sold.

If you look up 'New member, new Stag, old problem?' you will find it is owned by Kryten, it's a lovely example but this is definately a scam. I have Pm'ed him so he can complain. he bought it from ebay so it was genuine once, no doubt they have copied the page and relisted it.

Hi guys - yep it's mine and I have reported it to Ebay - thanks for pointing it out to me in your PM Dogsnadgers.

It's away having a decent alarm fitted at the moment so maybe the alarm place are trying to supplement their income?? (only kidding, nice Mr Alarm Fitter)

I gather that ebay can't really be that bothered to police these things.... it'll be interesting to see how much longer it stays up......

Never mind reporting it to eBay it should be reported to the police as well. It's clearly an attempt at fraud. All eBay will do is cancel the auction and leave the scammer to have another go with a different car/different identity

I've just spoken to a copper friend of mine, and he said unless I was likely to become a direct victim of the fraud, which I'm not, then the police aren't interested anymore so not worth even picking up the phone........

However if I was to put my feet on a railway carriage seat, I would get a criminal record (if any of you have heard about that one on the news today...:X)

Time to emigrate methinks (although not too hot a country, with my Stag's habit of getting over-warm:P)

Just to let you know, I contacted this scumbag to find if I could view the car - this was the reply...... you can guess what my reply to him was - not printable here!

I am selling this car for £2,800.00 including delivery anywhere in UK.I set at a "very, very low" price to guarantee a sale. The only reason is that I need cash for a family emergency. I have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major problems so pick up/view isn't an option. If you want to buy this vehicle email me back with your full name and address to start the official procedure trough eBay. They will send you a notification with ALL the info regarding delivery, purchase protection and refund policy so please provide your details before more questions. You will find 90% of answers in that notification from eBay!

                  Thanks

ok - I'm thick! Can someone tell me how the scam works please? I have used ebay a few times and other than one unscrupulous person who sold me a genuine workshop manual that turned out to be a CD with bits missing (ebay refunded money as the guy refused to anwer) I've had no problems. But next time I may not be so lucky!

I've given this some thought - and I could be very wrong (my wife would tell you quite often) but it goes like this......

You send him your name, address and email etc, supposedly to "start the official procedure through ebay"as he says in the reply and then he sends you home made ebay-esque pages to make it look like you've organisedthepurchasethrough ebay - they will send you a pro-forma invoice, again supposedly from ebay requiring you to wire money through Western Union or do an escrow - but he is the escrow holder, not the 3rd party it's supposed to be.

"ebay" then tells you when and where to pick the car up (or in fact not) - it's all down to being unwary, and trusting that it is really ebay that have arranged it - I can only see it working with ebay virgins......

                              Hi Russ,

The reply you got from the 'seller' is identical to those you get from all these scammers; out of the country, use eBay for protection, all details via eBay etc,but I think you have worked out the ruse.
