brake warning light

Hello everybody,

Although I have disconnected the switch of the PDWA our brake warning light comes on all the tÃme when driving.

What might be the cause for that? Is there a sensor in the brake pads or in the main brake cylinder?

Hi Dieter

My brake warning light comes on when I apply the handbrake, with the ignition on. I'm not aware of any sensors in the system apart from the PDWA. I believe these can be set wrong, someone with more knowledge than me will be able to advise you!

Hello Brian,

On my Mk1 there are separate lights for "Brake" and "Handbreak" in the cluster. The one for "Brake" comes on when that pin in the PDWA is not in the normal, middle position normally. Mine comes on although I have disconnected the PDWA.

So the question is: What else has that warning light got to tell?

It is earthed via the oil warning light and switch as a test for the Brake Warning Lamp on Mk1s, so does your oil light work as it should?

If memory serves there is nothing else to go wrong other than the wiring from the PDWA to the lamp being shorted to earth on the black/purple wire.

Ah, I forgot the MK1 is different

My car is a MK2 with only one light of course...

As indeed is mine Brian....... the wiring in the Mk1 is different in quite a few respects and has frequently been bodged to death after 40 odd years.... makes fault finding a real pain......
