    AFT leak

Hi, i have found that i have a leak somewhere but cannot work out exactly where its coming from, after spending the day cleaning and looking im none the wiser.

It only leaks when rening or its been running, red oil dripping from the sump bolts and dipstick entry. I replaced the brass washers on the dipstick entry but still the same.

I think i may drop the plate and renew the gasket, it may be a collection of leaks from bolts etc.

Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mark.

You don't say which auto box you have but if it is like mine which is a Bw35 box then its worth checking the breather tube. I have just had my box out to replace the front oil seal because I kept getting ATF everywhere even after changing the sump gasket, filler tube banjo washers etc. After removing the box I found that the breather tube had split about 8" from where it enters the box. It was also hard and badly cracked for about 2" in this area. It corresponds to where it runs over the bell housing immediately behind the engine - hence why it looked like the fluid was from the front seal!. So first I would carefully examine the tube along its entire length. It would also be worth blowing it throught to check that it is clear. the bw box is apparently notorious for dumping fluid when hot if the breather is not in good shape. Whilst I had the box out i also removed the cooler and straightened all the fins out. these had got flattedned over the years and I don't think the cooler was anything like as effective as it should be.

          Hi Folks.

My BW35 box also has ATF coming from many of the sump bolts even after the car has been standing for days. In desperation and to prevent the drivway and garage floor getting into a right mess, I have fabricated and fitted a drip-tray which hangs beneath the exhausts until I can get the problem resolved.
My questions are - (1) is the breather tube checkable with the box in-situ or does it have to come out to do this ? and (2) can anyone recommend an establishment in Scotland or in the north of England who could remove my box to fit new a new seal between the TC and the box etc. ?
