More fun that a Jump Start

Hi, a quote from the BW 35 Manual:-

    Rear Pump

The rear pump is driven by the output shaft of the transmission. It is fully effect above 20 mph and then supplies all hydraulic requirements of the transmission.

Thus enabling the engine to be started by towing at over 20 mph:shock:

Who needs jump leads, just keep a bungee ropeand a Range Rover in the glovebox - sorted.

    Mark.

You must have a very early BW35 manual.

There's never been a rear pump fitted to a Stag, and to my knowledge and memory rear pumps in 35s were deleted in the mid 60s - the GM Hydraglide and the AP autobox fitted to the Mini and BMC 1100s also had a output shaft driven pump in the early models for bump-starting purposes, but with the improved reliability of batteries and starter motors, and the need to cut production costs, rear pumps were also deleted from production gearboxes in the 60s......

Moral is, don't try to bump start your auto Stag....... you'll just get tired
