Diesel Stags

Two of our most senior members have both had avery seniormoments inthe last month, i.e. filling there Stags with diesel. They are very nice people but Iam really worried about joining their club, so as you can see from the attached pictures I have fitted a restrictor washer in the neck of the filler tube. The unleaded nozzle will go in but not the diesel

Not tried to fill up with petrol yet as I only toped it up on Monday, but will let you know how it goes.

Nothing special just a1.5/8" OD and15/16"In side dia washer that I had in a box of old bits in the garage, I did have to spend a bit of time withthe grinder trimming a very small amount from the outside as if its not seated inside the neck the cap would not shut.

If you cannot get one local, please let me know am I can pop one in the post

Thats what everyone says "nothing special ! "

But if it stops people filling up with diesel its a great idea. You get get a few hundred of those made and make a few quid. Im sure there would be demand for such a cheap solution to a common problem

At the present time itsjust a very good tight fit.When its been tested,i.e.whenthe stag been used to burn off some fuel and then topped it up.I will try lock tight.

This is a brilliant idea, well done. I have 3 cars, 2 petrol and a Diesel daily driver, it's Russian Roulette every time I fill up.

I can’t take all the credit asone of our members Dave loaded the gun with the initial ideal. Anyway have siphoned out a gallon of petrol from the stag as I had filled it up prior to fitting the restrictor, prefer the taste of red wine as apposed to unleaded.

Just got back from thepetrol station and topped that tank up with no problem. One thing though is that even though there is a 1/8" gap between the inside of the washer and the fuel nozzle, the fuel pump (at the petrolstation) stopped automatically they do this anyway when the tanks nearly full anyway, but it made me think weather it would do it when the tank is not full. It will be a week or so before I do enough miles to be able fill the tank again. If it does cause a problem as you can see from the attached (poor) picture a series of holes could be drilled that would overcome this problem.

Just filled the Stag with petrol 1st time since I fitted the washer in the fuel filler neck.And pleased to report that the adaptor washer works ok,with no kick back from the fuel filler until that tank was full.
So no need to drillany breather holes,in the washer

Good news, Malc.

Now for your next challenge: Make an adaptor that prevents the smaller unleaded nozzle form being put into the larger diesel filler.
