    Inlet gaskets and overheating

Sorry if this has undoubtably been covered before, but why do the inlet gaskets not fit properly and which are the best gaskets to fit?Do any of them "fit"?

This is the picture of my recent hot running rebuild LH bank inlet withremnants of Payen gasket...

Looks like the soctfl should invest in a new pattern to make these gaskets to go with the new cylinder heads they are talking about!

FWIW I find that the best way to fit these gaskets is to stick them to the manifold first. I leave them pressed to the manifold until the goo sets. This at least ensures they are aligned to the manifold openings and lessens the chance of them slipping during fitment.

There are several supplies of gaskets. I have used genuine Payen gaskets a few times (including the most recent), but have also used unknown brands from other sources. Even the Payen gaskets can need a little modification to the bolt holes to get the water passages aligned properly.

Do you rely on the goo to stop the modified gasket sliding back down with enlarged holes DJT? The problem with Payen is theyu have the slit in the gasket between inlets and waterways which makes modifications tight.
