    CAT 2 ALARM

    Hi,

The clubs approved insurance R H. has insisted that I have a CAT2 immobilizer
Fitted. The stag has a GEMINI 1160 which locks the doors and closes the windows
With a key fob. in the manual it doesn’t say CAT 2, and I have no paper work On fitment. Here are the instructions. Insurance company says I have 30 days to

Check back with RH. They removed the requirement fora Cat2 immobiliser some time ago, and this was confirmed when I had a quote from them this time last year. If they have reverted to insisting, then there are other providers. Send me a PM and I will tell you who I use.

Your unit would not pass Thatcham quality requirements as one of their standards is that ALL the wiring is black.

Incidentally; Thatcham Category 2 is purely an electronic/electromechanical immobiliser that isolates a minimum of 2 circuits. Category 1 is a combined immobiliser/alarm, although you can have a Category 2-1 alarm upgradefrom a Category 2 immobiliser. Cat 3 is the physical deterrants, such as the steering wheel locks (Mechanical immobiliser).

If you play around on the above website, you will find the definitions and a listing of all their approved aftermarket units, which includes the Gemini 5079 C2, which is contact type, not a transponder type. http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdf...gerCarCAT2.pdf

Thanks for that. I can’t believe I have to waste money on another system.
The system I have operates the central locking and full closure of the electric
windows. It even has sensors on the dash, and you cant start the engine without the fob
what more do they want. i will check with them again

I was not aware that the Stag has central locking as standard.

Not had my car that long on the road it is in the garage at present so cant go and try myself. My car is a 1974 MKII, from when was central locking fitted as standard on Stags.

Although not that bothered about the alarm, I find the remote central locking and closing of windows really cool. Are these features unique to the Gemini or what other systems do users recommend to get these features.

Hope I am not highjacking your thread?

Central locking was not standard on the stag, but there are many kits available to upgrade your system starting around ÂŁ140 for keyless entry and immobilser.

Jon where do you get this central looking & immoberliser from?I would love this instead of reaching across or running around the car to lock the car:?

Look at monarch-stags.co.uk and under the heading General.Basic kit includes keyless entry and immobiliser but for extra cost you can have windows and bootlid all on the keyfob

Try Lancaster Ins Services as they have always been really good VFM and don't demand any alarms!

I am sure RH don't need CAT 2, mind you I now don't live in the car crime capitol of Western Europe

Peter Best Insurance Services do not insist on an immobiliser or alarm. They include everything that the club policy covers and will 'price-match'. I can testify to the efficiency of their breakdown recovery and they also (through DAS) were very supportive in my, succesful, attempts to take a spotty youf through the courts after he side-swiped my Stag with his Corsa a couple of years ago.

They have just included my 27-year old Daughter on my policy for no extra charge - but they did refuse my 24-year old Son (Golf Professional, 3-points on his licence and an at-fault claim within the past 4 years). I wonder why?

Footman James didn't require an alarm or immobiliser - didn't want to chance it though so had a 'mutts nuts' Cat 1 Cobra alarm immobiliser with dual zone microwave detectorand 'chancers' warning professionally fitted and certificated- gives me great peace of mind and that's the best insurance you can get!!
