    GTX Magnatec

Does anyone know if using Castrol GTX Magnatec 15/40W would be a problem in the Stag engine?

I am asking as my oil needs changed and someone advised that only 20/50W should be used but I would have thought 15/40W would be better at the most crucial point when the engine is cold!

    Hi Stuart.

Castrol Magnatec 15w/40 is fine for the stag engine as long as it is not a very worn engine as high oil consumption could result. Also if you have a recon engine you are best to run it in on 20w/50 before changing to 15w/40.I am currently using Castrol Edge 0w/30,but will be switching back to 15w/40 real soon as the gaskets seem to struggle to hold back the ultra thin oil

Thanks Jon I will go ahead and change the oil. The engine was fully rebuilt 7000 miles ago so is run in now!

I've also bought a full oil leak kit so the new seals and gaskets should hold in my expensive new oil:shock:.

        Hi.

If I were you I would stick with the recomended oil 20 / 50 for the engine, you could do more damage to the engine by changing.

A friend of mine was told it would do no harm to his TR6 engine but he has just spent a fortune to totally rebuild it.

I have just totally rebuilt my Stag engine, run it in for the first 100 miles on 20/50 drained it out, in went new 20/50 for 500 miles Changed oil and filter. I am now in Norway working and have driven a total of 2000 miles so far with not a spot of bother. I have only topped up with 1/2 litre of oil. The car is running sweet as a nut.

1000 more miles to go then new oil and filter. I will be stickking to using Duckhams Classic 20/50.

        Paul.
