When I bought my Stag the previous owner had damaged the hood by welding the inner wing whilst the car was on a tilting frame. This resulted in a couple of burnt elongated elipses in theskirt of the hood. My neighbour who is a keen fisherman and works in a fishing tackle shop suggested that it might be possible to repair with Aquasure. This is a Urethane repair adhesive and sealant. It sticks and is waterproof. What is even more important is that it is totally flexible. It is used as permanent repair to waders! The standard product takes 24 hrs to cure but there is a rapid curing one as well.
As I had some of the original hood material available and some black canvas I trimmed round the holes and stuck a backing of canvas on theinside face. I carefully cut out a patch of hood material to insert into the backed hole making sure that the weave was going the same way as the surrounding area. The next day I glued in the patch. I used a permanent marker round the edges to conceal any join.
It isn't as good as I would have liked. This is due to my inexperience with the material. Were I to do it again I would have protected the area around the patch by sticking selotape to avoid the glue getting onto the hood. I got much of it off using a eraser. The patch also slid a bit and didnt fit into the hole as neatly as I would have wished. However it is a great improvement. I have taken some photos and will try to attach them.
Try as I might I can only get one photo into the browse bit. I shall try putting the others using the edit function.
Sorry
Paul
