    Hood help - Leeds

    Hi everyone,

is there anyone near Leeds who would let me come and have a look at their hood please? Mine needs a little tweaking and it's hard when you don't have another one to compare with...

    cheers!

Tony, I have a wide variety of pictures of the hood frame. If you describe the view you need I will post what I can to help.

cheers! It's the bit around the 'b' posts - the retaining catches that hold the rear hoop up don't really engage and when you fold the hood down it only justs fits in the storage area as the rear hoop is tight on the back edge.

sometimes it gets stuck half way down too and can be a real pain... I'm sure it's just a bend or two in the wrong place here and there...

      thanks,

      Toby

Toby, the two B-postcatches that you mentioned are a common problem. Usually the cause of the catches not holding properly is

          a) a faulty catch (eg missing spring)

          b)incorrect catch adjustment

          c) bent frame

I will post two pics: the first shows the area of the catch, the second shows a gauge which I use to check the frame angle at a critical point.

Let me know if these pics help.

To correct the problem of the back catching on the body, the rear hoop is adjustable, and you can move it forwards by loosening the three bolts where it attaches to the J leg. Try doing that on the side that catches, and push it forwards a bit. Cheers.

              fantastic - thanks very much!

will try and have a go tomorrow.... I removed one of the catches as the spring wasn't doing anything. needs bending back somehow, but they're kinda weird springs that don't some to do a great deal?

I Toby, I know what you mean about the springs. To test the spring/catch:

The catch should rest in extreme vertical travel up or down. With the catch at the top (closed) apply presuure and it should jump over the halfway stageto its lower position and vice versa. I think the spring is there to prevent the catch staying half way.

Do this without the hood engaged in the catch.

The catch is also adjustable (V & H), check the slots are free to enable full adjustment, mine were not, had to file some crap away. Also check bolts and washer are not to big as this limits adjustment.

Also when playing with the hood stuff, remove the back seat, if thing get stuck, you will be glad you did.

                  Mark.
