    Hi from Stormy Ontario

    Unfortunately the annual picnic for one of the car clubs thatI belong to here in Southern Ontario (Canada) was cancelled this morning as a result of the bad weather. As it turns out this is not all bad as the I am the organiser for the egg & spoon and the book balancing races we now have 24 hard boiled eggs for our own consumption !! as well as some time to answer some of my many emails.

    A number of us Stag owners here in the Toronto area are going to install the ZF transmission and I have already have had some great information from Alan and Les,thanks guys.

    I would like to dig a little deeper into the speedometer conversion from mechanical to electronic and somewhere on the forum I read that in one issue of the club magazine their was an article,or maybe just an advertisement,to this effect.

    Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated

    This is the company that do them as a conversion and may i suggest that you contact them by email and they can send you the details.

    You don't have to have the dial with the LCD tripmeter, you can have your dial convertedso that you cannot see that there is any difference. I have fitted one to my fathers stag and it is straight forward.

    The system works by a sensor fitted to the output of your diff drive shaft where you have to make yourself as its not part of the kit, a small plate to hold the sensor. You then replace the drive shaft bolts to round headed bolts as the sensor uses the bolt heads to trigger the sensor beam.This is then transmitted along a wire to the dial. On the dial, there are 3 setting adjustments, 100%, 10% and 1%. All you do then when it is on the road is to borrow a satnav and then tune it to the correct speed to avoid speeding tickets

      Note that with regard to the speedo drive you could always fit a newspeedo from speedycables with electronic internals that uses a sensor pickup off the diff. See SOC mag Feb 07 page 10.

        This is exately the information that I was looking for,many thanks.

        I will contact Speedy cables and ask for additional information but from your description it seems that the trip feature will not be operational with the conversion but once dialed in you will get a true MPH/KPH reading.

          Yes, that's right, the speedo conversion will have nothing to do with the gearbox conversion but it will allow you or anyone to calibrate speed for any sized tyres or wheels
