    List of Garages

I have noticed a lot of posts asking for advise of recommended garages in respective areas.

Has anyone thought of putting together a list of recommended garages/suppliers around the country compiled by county?

And no I don't fancy the task before anyone ask's.:P

    Hi Stuart ...

I agree ... and shoot me down if you want to everyone ... but the MG Owners Club have a spanner rating for garages. I have used it on a number of occasions to make contact with MG specialists when moving around. Don't how they do it though - but they produce a directory of garages on an annual basis. Maybe nothing quite this formal but a list of Stag / classic friendly garages organised by region?

    Cheers

      Hi Alan

When I had a Triiumph 2000MK2 and was a memeber of Club Triumph they sent me a director of Triumph specialist which i still have.

Maybe the clubs should talk and make this list more widely used and include some of the Stag specialists?

This subject has been brought up before, and I know that many of us felt it a good idea to have some form of reference for many things, garages, suppliers, upholsterers etc. However, it is as always, how do we do it?

The SOC does not see the website as a primary tool for information, and relies upon the monthly magazine, and that is not cost effective as a medium for this sort of info. Whilst this site is growing, we are still a small minority in the club.

We could request some form of database / listing here but who would police it? We've already seen what can arise if someone starts to grind an axe on the forum.

As for the clubs talking with each other, good idea, a joint publication would be a good thing but I'm sure we'd hit the ultimate question of "who pays?"

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see something develop along these lines as we all do have the same problems, and we rely on each other, whether in person or through the forum, to get help, but as always, defining the start line is tricky.

This is a real can of worms. Ideally this is exactly the sort of facility that a club should provide to its members, but it's extremely difficult to deliver. If you go down the MGOC route then you need to put in place all the paraphernalia of an approved scheme which requires signicant resource to manage and regulatefairly and objectively. At the other end of the scale you can simply have a dedicated area on this Forum for members to share experiences good, bad and indifferent and from time-to-time this happens. The problem is of course, that human nature being what it is, you'll tend to get more of the 'Mr angry' stuff than the more positive. Some folks are difficult to please and expect the highest quality for less than it actually costs to make, while some of the more jaded of us don't have very high expectations in the first place! Reconciling these two very different positions is nigh on impossible, so I guess we're stuck with word-of-mouth and the experience/opinions from thosewe learn to trust and respect. On a positive note, I suggest thatwhen get really good service somewhere, we should all make a point of mentioning it here.

                First post !!

Well does anyone have a spanner-man in their area they like and trust ?

I'll start with Terry Wakeman near Hemel Hempstead. He does alot of bodywork for me, private and insurance and is a top bloke.

List of suppliers or repairers that have provided good service to members would be useful, club list just seems to include anyone who advertises as a business in the magazine. Anyone know of a trustworthy/quality bodyshop in Lincolnshire.

                  cheers
