Diff between 'Normal' and 'Thick' Head gaskets

Yes, yes I know one is thicker than the other but:-

What is the difference in thickness between the 'Normal' Payen head gaskets and the 'Thick' Payen head gaskets?

Is it normal practice to use the 'Thick' gaskets whenever a head is skimmed?

Hoping someone knows the answer- Cheers Alan

hi al ,depends on how much material removed to start with and if the skim has been = if the decks have been machined etc lots of variables to plus in.

if it was just a ten thou from std i probably would use std any more and go thick.

well thats my tuppence im sure itl get adjusted by some guru

Does anyone know if there is any way to find out what gaskets are fitted when apart? I know I fitted one or the other on my engine but will be rebuilding it soon and I'd rather like the same as they've been successful.
