After the fire which took out the power steering hoses (see separate thread) I replaced both them and the damaged wiring, a tedious but not difficult job and then drove figure of 8 passes round the yard to check the sealing on the PS hoses since I have had problems getting them to seal correctly. During this test the brakes failed.
On examination I found one of the hoses to the calliper had blown. This was an Aeroquip type with the stainless braided cover and even after removal it looks fine.
My thoughts are that since a very through inspection during the MOT did not show up any impending problem should anyone who has this type of hose replace them at regular interval as would be if they were used in motorsport.
I have replaced mine with conventional rubber type which should be easier to inspect.
