Wire wheels

Where is the best place to get a set of chrome wire wheels for a stag ??

I am thinking i would like to fit 15inch wheels ideally and wondered if the wheels off of a MGB would fit ??

I saw a set of 15" on a Stag a number of years ago and they looked very good. I think they were originally destined for a TR6 whose wheels are 15" and presumably the same pitch centres as the Stag. I wouldn't go the MGB route until you've explored the TR route.

My wiresare 14" but I think 15" look better. However, there are those that think the suspension is set up for 14" and is adversely affected by going to 15", so beware.

I quite fancy wires on mine seeing as it is black and was thinking of getting thin band white wall tyres as well

Two Stags ago, I had one with standard alloy wheels but with thin whitewalls, put on by the previous owner. I grew to like them so much that I think that I too would put them on again, given the chance. However, I could never afford to change 4 (or 5) tyres all at once.

You are into the realms of personal choice so if it is what you want, go for it.

I wish I had a photo to show you but digital cameras hadn't been invented then!

My Stag came to me withbolt on wires and in trying to source new caps for the wheels I discovered this site, whichhas a lot of useful information on wire wheels http://www.mwsint.com/.

You will be able to compare MGB and other possible fitments with the recommended ones for the Stag.

Here's a photo of mine with standard wheels and thin white wall tyres. Personally I prefer normal sidewalls, I will change mine over the summer.

I had 15 inch wires on my Java Stag - the one which was stolen. Fitted with 195/65 Tyres to give correct rolling diameter i.e. no speedo correction required. Handling was improved due to lower profile tyres - I fitted Firestone - good tyres/good price. SC Parts supplied my rims and adaptors (TR6 parts). I'll be fitting the same to my newly aquired replacement car.

I have to stay the original wheels with thin white walls gets my vote over the wires every day, you could get the 15'' 'style' originals from favershams if you want to go up an inch:shock:

Just put some new whitewalls on mine now the car has been resprayed - whitewalls go well with the Allycat Rallye Special alloys I have fitted.

G'day Terry,

I see you went with the red stripes, did you try any other colours first? I'm considering gold stripes on mine, I have a beige interior, I think it may work.
