    Should the fuel pump tick?

When I turn the ignition on, I hear a 'ticking' noise coming from the rear of the car. I'm guessing at this being the fuel pump.

It stops after a short while.

Is it the fuel pump (priming maybe?) and more to the point, should it do it?

Recently, I didn't get this ticking and had difficulty in starting the engine - coincidence?

It is the fuel pump filling the carbswhen the car has been standing and the fuellevel in the carbs has dropped. If the carbs are still full of fuel it will not tick until the engine is running.

You will hear a tick every few seconds with the engine idling.

The points in the pump are prone to sticking with lack of useand can often be freed by lightly tapping the pump body.

    The points are replaceable.
