    Quarter Light seals renewal procedure

    Hi All

Looking forward to getting a pair of the new seals and they are shortly going to go on sale.

Reason for post is to confirm the replacement procedure in case I think the job is easier than expected
    • Remove door trim panel
    • Remove the quarter light knob mechanism
    • Turn quarter light glass as 90 degrees
    • Undo the chrome hinge screws and pull the glass out with frame.
    • Pull out old seal and replace

Have I missed anything and has anyone done this job recently?

    Cheers

    Andrew

Hi Andrew, you may have problems getting the 1/4 light stem back into the clamp bracket. If they havent been looked at , they will be very rusty.

If this is the case, just lift the whole window frame a couple of inches to gain access to the clamp and nut and bolt.

    Mark.

The part that you refer to as possibly being rusty, do you mean the turn mechanism that is held in by 3 screws / bolts?

Any idea when the seals will actually be available and who will be supplying them.

Tooling Fund and they will be available I understand through all suppliers as there is no longer Tier 1

I expect LDPart will have them soon and I have already emailed Peter.

I believe they have fitted a pair to car and are just testing them

Cant wait, especially as winter is approaching and I am getting fed up with flicks of water on the face when driving in the rain at 70mph

Great news been after a new pair for ages. New outer quarter light hinges would be something else worth doing as most Ive seen are corroded. I did see some new ones advertised in the SOC mag years ago but havent seen them advertised since.

Andrew, the clamp is attached to window frame via a nut & bolt - real pain to even touch in situ. I would try your original plan, but allow enough time to lift the window frame.

Also be carefull not to put a lot of force on the 1/4 light, or you may break the weld where the stem attaches it.

Window frame is fairly easy to lift, to bolts at bottom, 2 at side, 1 at top ISTR? Then lift a few inches.

I decided to replace my 1/4 light last year, because the weld was broken,in the end I stripped the entire door -locks, electric window , new door cards, window channels - be warned - one of those 10 min jobs that turned into a week.

I need to replace the quarter light frame on my drivers side as the base pivot has briken and the hinge that attaches to the frame has broke as well :X
