    ALTERNATOR.

My alternator started playing games on Monday, switching between 11 volts and just short of 15 at will, I findthe 18ACRhas been struggling with electric fan and headlights so I've opted for one of Wards 80 amp ones, that's 35 up on the original, already I've found the battery recovers from a start in a fraction of the time, the windows and wipers are faster straight away and headlights have little effect on the charge rate. It's only about a tenner more than the basic one so I reckon it's a bit of a find.

The diameter is slightly larger than the 18ACR so the bottom hose and pipe have to come off, not really any hardship. It'll be interesting to see how it performs come the cold season. Martin.

Hi Martin, Regarding the wiring, does it plug straight into the new alternator or is there any mods required.

Personally I would uprate/renew the main charging wire as I'm sure there would be a volt drop across it by now - with the increased charge rate there would be a risk of the wire getting hot if electrical demand goes up........
