rev counter not working

Hi All

Looking for some advice on how the rev counter works,I've just had my gear box rebuilt after refitting we had trouble starting the car,ie:had no spark! after a lot of checking wiring connections we managed to get the car going,but now the rev counter is not working:X,does any of the connections on the coil have anything to do with the rev counter? I have the EJ Ward electronic ignition fitted,everything was working ok before the gearbox came out:?.any advice please. cheers Cliff.

If you have a Mk2 and the revcounter is marked RVC on the face, then the white/slate wire on the negative (what would have been CB or connected to the original points) side of the coil has become disconnected or broken.

If you have a RVI marked revcounter then the coil could be connected backwards......

The rev counter is connected to the coil,i think it's the white/grey cable from neg side of the coil. Mk1 & Mk2 have different connections on the rev counters.

Well I've tried all the wires disconnected,reconnected, swap round,I cannot get the rev counter working very frustrating:Xshe starts and drives fine but no tacho!

anyone got any ideas?

Its a mk2 so I presume RVC also I have the EJ Ward electronic ignition fitted.

All fixed turned out be a broken wire just before the coil connection.

my rev counter is fluctuating and not giving a true reading of the engine revs - could it be a loost connection or maybe a faulty rev counter itself ???

Yes it was the white and grey wire,I had probaly pulled it off and on half a dozen times trying to find the problem so I was probaly making it worse:X.

So I'm all happy now and in love with my Stag again.Cheers Cliff.

Did you find out why the rev counter was moving about? Mine does the same.
