    Extending clutch nose cones

I think I have found someone who will heat the casting of the nose cone and insert a longer tube of the correct diameter. All I need to know is the length it needs to be....

Favershams are adamant (and I am not going to argue) that it has to be the exact length of the one they fitted previously, except nobody has the dimensions. Despite calls to SOC spares twice, Favershams and the clubs tech specialist - who phoned me back from Spain, thank you - no one concerned with the project has the exact length.

Hopefully, the article from the magazine, if anyone has it, will show the length? The standard long nose cone is 80mm along the tube.

    Help please!!!!!

Thanks I have seen this post and its 91mm vs 80mm on the triumph long nose. Favershams are adamant that it should be the measurement they have sorted with SOC Spares and Mike Allan but dont actually know what that measurement is.

Its the article in the club magazine I am after if anyone has it?

Phone Martin and ask him to measure it if he still has it.......

          Hi Dave,

I have bought one of the longer nose cones from Martin and apparantly its not long enough! Who said size isnt important...

The write-up in the magazine was about extending a long nose into a longer one.

          Does anyone keep back issues?

            Hi Graham

I got given a load of back issues when I bought my Stag. Do you know which one it was in?

              Hi Graham,

I used one of the longer ones (sourced from Martin) when I last did the clutch and gearbox on my old MOD Mk1. Combined with the recessed bearing carrier it produced the lightest, smoothest clutch I hadin over 18 years of ownership. And that car had several clutch changes in its life with me as the engine and/or gearbox came out a few times for various reasons.

I am not sure what benefit an even longer one would have.
