    PAS Rack

    Hi All

Is it really possible to recon my PAS rack at home or should I just stump up the £110 for a recon one?

I think the rack went because I accidentally put Dextron 3 fluid in which I believe damaged the seals:X

Reason I ask is because it is£17.50 for a seal kit but £110 for the rack and I am skint!:?

        Stuart,

I did mine recently from a kit, of course I won't know if I did a go job or not until I'm able to power the thing. It's assy, hopefully they were not affected by the Dextron fluid.

        Look at http://www.triumphstag.net/start/tec...g/steering.htm

        Regards

        John

          Hi John

          Thanks for this superb link.

I am taking the car off the road to rebuild the steering rack, pump & column plus I will rebuild the diff with new bearings and CWP this autumn/winter.

I will endeavour to take photo's of all this work for reference purposes for the forum

            Hi Stu

Like you I have purchased the seal kit (from Paddocks) and simply need to build up the confidence to take the rack apart and have a go.

              Hi Stuart,

Did you get my PM? Might be an alternative to see you through until winter arrives.

Stu i have a spare rack that i was given to me when i bought the stag.

I dont know if it is any good or not - but it might be good to have it to rebuild and leave your one on the car

PM if you are interested in it

                  thanks D

Stu, its not difficult as long as you think about what you're doing. The hardest bit isremoving the rod ends, I never found a way of simultaneously () undoing each end, also need large spanners. Internally be very carefull with the plastic seal spacers, they are not partof the kit and easy to break. I also leave the end cap loosish and tighten when on the mounting brackets. I could add more but easier by phone or message.

                        Have fun

                        Paul
